Hunterdon County, New Jersey, borders Pennsylvania and is home to small towns and small cities. The dining scene in the county is diverse. Visitors to the area find small cafes, large chains, delis and ethnic cuisine such as Mexican, Italian and Chinese. Restaurants tend to be clustered along main state roads and Interstate 78. If you're in the area, staying along one of the major roads offers you a selection of eateries.

Marinelli's Pizza and Italian Restaurant

Marinelli's Pizza has been serving residents of Hunterdon County since 1988 and is family-run. Try an appetizer of broccoli rabe, sausage and beans; garlic bread or cold antipasto. Pasta dishes come with bread and salad and include baked ziti, lasagna, pasta with chicken, gorgonzola and peas in cream sauce and spaghetti with meatballs. Hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, seafood dishes, salads and side dishes also grace the menu. Pizzas come in personal, small or large sizes and can be topped with sausage, pepperoni, meatballs, ham, bacon, anchovies, olives, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes or spinach.

Ol' West BBQ

If you think good barbecue can only be found in the South, try Ol' West BBQ in Annandale. Specializing in Midwestern and Southern-style barbecue, lunch and dinner is served for dining in or carrying out. Start with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes, onion loaf, buffalo wings or potato skins. All meats are slow-smoked for up to 14 hours. Choose from Kansas City baby-back ribs, St. Louis ribs, spit-roasted chicken, New Orleans catfish, beef brisket, Arkansas pork loin and Carolina chopped barbecue. Sides include steamed vegetables, drunken apples, bourbon mashed sweet potatoes, coleslaw, baked beans and macaroni and cheese. Save room for a dessert of Georgia baked pecan squares, cheese cake or Hunterdon County homemade baked apple pie.

Lo-Fatt-Chow

Those who are watching their caloric intake can dine at Lo-Fatt-Chows without worry. With a policy of "no grease allowed" this is not a typical greasy Chinese takeout place. Careful consideration has been taken to ensure that diners get a healthful meal.
