The exact definition of a "hybid" bike can be debated, but most bike aficionados would probably agree the key elements of a hybrid are a sturdy frame designed to accommodate wheels, and tires that are wider than those on a road bike and narrower than a mountain bike's. Hybrid bikes also feature upright handlebars, usually with integrated grip shifters, and often come equipped with racks and other accouterments useful for city riding and commuting.

Breezer Uptown 8

The Breezer Uptown 8 is designed to fill the role of a smooth-riding hybrid commuter bike. There's a seat post suspension system to smooth out bumps and potholes, and the steel frame is soft and supple, built with a comfortable upright geometry so you can relax while you ride. All of this combines to create a pleasurable riding experience.

There are plenty of other nice touches: a smooth-shifting eight-speed internal gear box, a chain guard that keeps you from getting your pants dirty, plus a rear rack, reflective tires and a built-in generator for the front and rear lights.

Novarra Fusion

The Novarra Fusion is a stylish ride, combining a subdued but glossy finish, accented with brown leather grips and seat. It's a well-equipped hybrid, too, with fenders, platform pedals, generator-powered lights, rack and kickstand to handle your daily riding needs, whether it's heading to the office, the market or to a bike path for a little R and R. Weight is kept under control with an aluminum frame, and shifting is quick and easy with the eight-speed transmission. Jump on, relax and enjoy the ride.

Bianchi Milano Citta

The Milano sports a conventional derailleur and cassette eight-speed transmission for a wide gear selection to cover different terrain when you ride. The aluminum frame has its share of Italian styling, topped off with water- and mud-deflecting fenders, plus a chain guard to prevent chain tattoos.

A wide saddle, platform pedals and an included rack mean you can jump on this bike any time for a relaxed and easy jaunt to the corner store or city park.
