Chesapeake Bay is located between Virginia and Maryland and is a prime spot for east coast sport fishing. It is possible to go for blues, Spanish Mackerel, trout, perch and striped bass in the bay. The bay is home to a myriad of sea and shore birds, as well as the occasional whale passing by the mouth of the bay. If you are planning a fishing trip to the bay, there are many charters and guides on the Virginia side of the bay. All anglers will need Virginia fishing licenses, available at sports stores.

Captain Hogg's charters is based out of Hampton, Virginia and takes anglers in Chesapeake Bay for striped bass, Spanish mackerel, trout, perch and blues. Captain Hogg's provides all fishing gear, tackle, guides, boat service and fishih finding during the charter. You should bring a cooler for the catch, lunch, drinks, rain gear, sun hat and glasses, a camera and an extra layer of clothes should the weather turn cold. Captain Hogg's operates 12 months of the year. May is a good time for perch and mackerel. Striped bass are at their best between May and September, as well as in December.

Fisher's Bay Charters operates out of Virginia Beach and specializes in striped bass fishing. Fisher's Bay has more than 20 years experience in the waters around Chesapeake Bay and the Northern Neck and lower Potomac River. During the months of April through November, trips depart from Buzzard's Marina. December through March sees tours and charters departing from the Virginia Beach Fishing Center. All gear and tackle is provided as are guides and boat services. You should bring sun glasses and hats, rain gear, extra clothes, a cooler, lunch and any drinks you may need for your day on the water.

If you are searching for a fly-fishing adventure on the bay, Chesapeake Bay Fly Fishing and Light Tackle offers guide service and charter operations. Charters can be arranged out of Norfolk/Virginia Beach or out of the Middle Peninsula, depending on your needs or location. Fly fishing in the many brackish tributaries for striped bass, perch and speckled trout is possible. Flies, tackle, rods and reels are provided during guided trips or charters.
