South Carolina has nearly 100 state parks, and many of them have cabins available. There is wide variety in the state. Several parks in coastal areas have cabins, some are rather remote, and others are in busy tourist areas. The Midlands, which are fairly flat, also have cabins, and there are cabins in the northern part of the state in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Myrtle Beach State Park

Myrtle Beach is known as a vacation spot and golfer's paradise, but what is not so well-known is that there is a state park in the middle of it all.

The Myrtle Beach State Park has preserved one of the oldest natural stands of coastal forest in the nation and has camping on a relatively secluded beach. The cabins in the park were built during the depression of the 1930s, and some of those buildings are still in use.

There are five cabins and two apartments, all within 100 yards of the beach. They are completely furnished and have heat and air-conditioning, a bath, bed linens, eating utensils and a TV. Wi-Fi is available at the park's main office.

The cabins have two or three bedrooms, and the apartments have either one or two bedrooms.

Santee State Park

Santee State Park, located on the shores of Lake Marion in central South Carolina, is a 2,500-acre park with many streams and trails. The park has two boat ramps, and fishing is a major activity on the lake. Lake Moultrie also is nearby. Prize striped bass often are caught in Lake Marion, and the area also is well-known for catfish.

There are 30 cabins, and 10 of those are on piers over the lake, making them very convenient for fishing. The cabins are furnished, have heat and air-conditioning, showers and a TV. The kitchens have basic eating and cooking utensils.

There is a community building and a marina at the park's headquarters.

Oconee State Park

Oconee State Park was the first park built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression of the 1930s, and many of those buildings are still in use.

Oconee State Park is in the Blue Ridge Mountains foothills and has many trails that are not difficult to hike. The area has many small lakes, and fishing is a favorite activity. The park is adjacent to Sumter National Forest and close to Table Rock State Park, and there is an 80-mile wilderness hiking trial at the south end of the park.

The park has 19 cabins, one of which is handicapped accessible. Pets are not allowed in the cabins. The cabins are one or two bedrooms and are furnished. Bed linens and towels are furnished. The cabins are heated and air-conditioned, have a microwave and a refrigerator and a screened back porch.

The park also has a barracks-type facility for groups up to 16.
