Land Tours in Charleston, South Carolina

Nearly four million people each year flock to Charleston, South Carolina, for the history and southern tradition that is abundant there. This beautifully preserved city has stood in the Lowcountry since 1670, when it moved from the west bank of the Ashley River. Known then as Charles Towne, the city changed to its present name in 1783. One of the best ways to see this city is by guided tour.

Historic Charleston Gray Line Bus Tour

This 90-minute tour aboard an air-conditioned minibus will take you to 100 different points of interest in Charleston. The bus stops at the Battery, Fort Sumter and Patriots Point for views of the Charleston harbor. Tour guides offer their take on the city's history. Some of the locations you will see include Rainbow Row, the Old Exchange Building and Whitepoint Gardens. The tour departs every 30 minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. from March to November and until 2 p.m. December to February.

Charleston Strolls

Wear comfortable shoes as your guide will meander with you through the streets of Charleston and tell you stories of the past. Go down alleys, view hidden gardens and enjoy the serenity of the Old South. The tour is recommended by "The New York Times," "Southern Living" magazine and "Ladies Home Journal." Some of the sites you will see on this walking tour include Antebellum mansions, churches and graveyards and Two Meeting Street Inn.

Charleston Ghost and Dungeon Walking Tour

Learn about the haunted side of this historic city. Bulldog Tours, founded in 2001, was created to raise money for the preservation of The Old Exchange. A portion of each ticket sold is donated to protect landmarks in Charleston. In this 90-minute tour you will learn about the ghosts of Charleston, some of the Lowcountry's superstitions and tour the dungeon. Tours leave nightly Tuesday through Saturday; March 1 through Nov. 30 at 7 and 9.
