No matter what type of outdoor activity you like to do, you'll find it near Monterey. Fishing and ocean adventures beckon from Monterey Bay, joggers and cyclists will take to the Pacific Grove trail and golfers can access several nearby courses. Monterey is close to Big Sur and to surfing near Santa Cruz. Relax with wine from a local winery after your expeditions, or stroll along historic Cannery Row.

Jabberwock Bed & Breakfast Inn

Located five blocks above Monterey Bay, the Jabberwock Inn offers guests a half-acre garden for relaxing and games of bocce ball. Guests can access the Pacific Grove trail for jogging or cycling four blocks from the Inn. All rooms include breakfast, afternoon tea and cookies and evening wine and snacks. Rooms come with Victorian decor; three rooms include Jacuzzi-style bathtubs and four have fireplaces. In 2010, room rates ranged from $169 to $299 per night. The Jabberwock offers wireless Internet and has a concierge on-site to help guests make travel plans.

Old Monterey Inn

Rooms at the Old Monterey Inn are designed for relaxation, with down bedding, plush robes, a private bath and private sitting area in every room. Some rooms offer fireplaces. Room rates for 2010 ranged from $219 to $379, with a big jump in rates on the weekend. The Old Monterey Inn has an English-style garden with an array of blooms, water fountains and small nooks for sitting. The Inn serves breakfast each morning.

Seven Gables Inn

Right off Monterey Bay, the Seven Gables Inn lies on the other side of Cannery Row in Pacific Grove. The Inn's gourmet breakfasts are prepared by a chef and served in an oceanside dining room. Guests can enjoy wine and cheese in the late afternoon and cookies before bed. The original Inn building was built in 1866 as a mansion overlooking Monterey Bay. Rooms range from $209 to $359 per night (in 2010) and include wireless Internet, plush bedding and a shower/tub bathroom.
