Although Seattle is known for its emphasis on outdoor activities such as a walk along the Pike's Place Market or a bike tour of the city, there are plenty of indoor activities that offer a fun and enjoyable outing for a family vacation. Prices are according to early 2010 rates.

Gameworks

Gameworks provides a wide range of indoor entertainment options for kids of all ages. On the second floor, you'll find traditional arcade games such as pool, air hockey, darts and old-fashioned ticket games. Downstairs, you'll find old and new video games of every variety from racing to sports to combat scenarios. In addition to games, Gameworks runs a full-service restaurant serving everything from nachos to pizza. It also has a "kid's menu" with smaller portions of the main menu items. Gameworks is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. on weekdays to 1 a.m. It opens at 10 a.m. on weekends. Entry is free but games are paid by game card. There is an initial $2 USD fee for a new game card but any unused credit can be rolled over for another visit.

Pacific Science Center

While exhibits at the Pacific Science Center focus on the exploration of technology, science and math, there is enough variety among them to appeal to all children. The center's permanent collections include exhibits on human anatomy, dinosaurs, the science of 3D, computers and robots. The permanent collection is supplemented by a rotating selection of temporary exhibits such as the "Facing Mars" exhibit which explores what it would be like to live on Mars. In addition to its exhibit's, the center also houses a planetarium, laser light theater as well as an IMAX theater showing current 3D and IMAX offerings. The Pacific Science Center is open six days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 6 p. m. on weekends. Tickets prices range from $7 USD for children 5 or under to $14 USD for adults. There are additional fees for the IMAX, planetarium and laser light theater.

Museum of Flight

If you're looking for a full day indoor activity, consider the Museum of Flight. In addition to displaying 39 full sized planes illustrating the history of flight, the museum also allows you to climb aboard the first Air Force One and the retired Concorde jet. If walking around a plane is not enough, try one of the museum's flight simulators or sign up for an actual flight on a vintage bi-plane air tour of the Seattle skies. The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p. m. Ticket prices for children five to 17 years old is $8 USD. Adult tickets are $15 USD.
