Camping and Fishing in Channahon, Illinois

Channahon, Illinois, is southwest of Chicago. There are several camping locations and places to fish in the Channahon area. Lake Michigan isn't far away, giving you a chance for some boating, and at night you can check out the Empress River Casino. Other interests in the area include Ernest Hemingway's birthplace and Splash Station Water Park.

Des Plaines Fish & Wildlife Area

Des Plaines Fish & Wildlife Area is located south of Channahon in Wilmington. The park offers many recreation activities that include hiking, horseback riding, hunting, and a trap range. You can fish on the Kankakee River as well as Milliken Lake. A boat ramp is available for those that want to fish further out. Picnic areas with grills are on-site as well as restrooms and camp sites with water hookups.

Fossil Rock Recreation Area

South of Channahon, you will find Fossil Rock Recreation Area. The park has a campground with bathhouses, picnic areas and recreation such as swimming, hiking and basketball. Fishing is also available on-site at a small lake. There is a marina and ramp set up for boating and fishing on the lake. Camping sites are there for tents, campers and RVs, full or partial hookups are available.

Heidecke State Fish and Wildlife Area

Heidecke State Fish and Wildlife Area is southwest of Channahon in Morris. Recreation fun includes hiking, hunting and cross country skiing. A lake is located on the property, giving you the chance to do a little fishing and a boat ramp allows access to deeper areas of the water. A stocking program keeps the lake full of bass. No more that two poles are allowed per fisherman. A license is required to fish here and at other state recreation areas.
