The Birmingham Museum of Art houses more than 24,000 objects within its 180,000-square-foot facility, so visitors can work up an appetite. There is a cafe within the museum and several other nearby options to fit most tastes and budgets, all within a half-mile walk of the museum.

Birmingham Museum of Art Cafe

This cafe, located inside the Birmingham Museum of Art, had been closed for lunch service, but it was tentatively scheduled to reopen in April 2010. However, even while lunch service was closed, the cafe still held special events and offered catering services. When the establishment reopens, it will feature cafe-style dining with fresh local ingredients.

It's now located a half-mile southeast of the museum, in a Birmingham storefront building that dates to the 1870s. The cafe's menu changes daily and pairs the "slow food" movement with regional ingredients. Cafe Dupont is closed Sundays and Mondays; it's open for lunch Tuesday through Friday until 2 p.m., and reopens for dinner at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the cafe is open for dinner only, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
