Princess Anne Hotel

The Princess Anne Hotel in Asheville, North Carolina, offers 16 suites, all non-smoking, each with free Internet access, bottled water, cookies and kitchenettes. Before hitting the trails, fuel up with a full breakfast, including egg souffle, crepes, bacon and fruit; the hotel uses local ingredients where possible. High Country Inn

Outdoor enthusiasts may enjoy accommodations at the High Country Inn, located in Boone, North Carolina, with 14 acres to hike, a natural spring, the mountain's largest water wheel, a duck and rabbit habitat and trout pond. Select from 120 rooms, ranging from a standard room to a whirlpool suite or king bed with fireplace. All rooms include refrigerator; non-smoking rooms may be requested. There is no Internet access. After a long day on the trails, unwind in the hotel's indoor pool, sauna, outdoor pool or fitness room. Dinner is available at the hotel's on-site restaurant, Geno's Sports Lounge. Other restaurants and shops are nearby. The High Country Inn does not allow pets.

Meadowbrook Inn

The Meadowbrook Inn is in the mountains' Eastern Continental Divide, offering sporting activities such as hiking, skiing and snowboarding. A variety of room styles (all non-smoking) are available, including rooms with whirlpool, balcony, fireplace and sofa sleeper. Each room has a different color and decor; beddings and furnishings are changed to reflect the season. The hotel offers a concierge (who can schedule an in-room, after-hike massage), indoor pool, hot tub, duck pond, fitness center and vending machines. All guests receive free continental breakfast. The Meadowbook Inn is seven miles from attractions such as Moses Cone Memorial Park, Flat Top Manor, Appalachian Ski Mountain and the French-Swiss Ski College. Pets are not allowed.
