The Best 4-Season Tents

The Best 4-Season Tents
Camping in winter requires very different equipment from your typical summer jaunt. Picking a tent suitable for winter camping requires careful research. Choices are much more limited and prices are often much steeper. But the right winter tent can make your camping successful year-round. Here is some of the best equipment out there.

Black Diamond Stormtrack

Weighing in at a little under 7 pounds, the Stormtrack is fairly light for a four-season tent. It packs efficiently and is exceptionally weather-proof. Designed for two, one of the tent's most exceptional features is the presence of a door and vestibule on both sides of the tent, allowing for simultaneous entry. The tent is freestanding and holds well in the wind. One of the few common complaints is the unorthodox setup, which can be confusing, particularly if you are trying to set it up for the first time in the middle of a blizzard. Price is $499.

Hilleberg Kaitum GT 3

Hilleberg makes some of the finest mountaineering tents in the world, and the Kaitum GT is no exception. With room for three, the Kaitum weighs only 7 pounds 6 ounces and has two doors and a vestibule. The tunnel design ensures solid protection even in high winds. The biggest setback for some might be the price: $895.

Mountain Hardwear EV2

While not as insulating as the other tents, with a single-wall design, the Mountain Hardwear EV2 will stand up to most inclement weather. This dome tent is designed primarily to be super durable and resistant to any moisture, with even the vents designed to keep water out. With a wind-blocking vestibule, the EV2 is perfect for two hikers expecting nasty weather. Price is around $550.
