The Best Camping Coffee

The Best Camping Coffee
A good cup of joe isn't just for the office. Sometimes a little morning coffee is the perfect way to get your prepped for a hike. But bringing coffee with you to the campsite can be a little bit of a challenge. It might seem like one of those luxuries you can easily leave out of your camping plans, but you might regret it when you start experiencing caffeine withdrawal instead of a sense of communing with nature. Here are a few solutions.

Starbucks VIA

Everyone looks down on instant coffee, but now the Starbucks is in the game, and you can expect a little better results. Starbucks' VIA instant coffee packs are made by micro-grinding coffee beans, and all it requires is hot water to put together a decent cup. Starbucks VIA comes in Colombian and Italian roasts, and you can get 12-packs for $9.95.

Cup.pour.ri

This oddly named device will give you perfect camping coffee without the need for a coffee machine stuffed in your backpack. Adapting stirrers frequently used for loose-leaf tea, this device has a filter system built into the spoon. Simply fill with ground beans and stir it in hot water to produce a good cup of coffee. This simple device can be found at REI for under $6.

Coffee Boiler

Make coffee the old-fashioned way with a durable camping coffee boiler. Fill the metal basket with beans, put it in the bottom of the boiler, then set the whole thing on the fire. Not a lightweight solution, but certainly a durable one, a camping coffee boiler is a great option for those looking to make coffee for a group. Plus, with a clear lid, you can see when the coffee has begun boiling and completed percolating. GSI's version sells for $29.
