Bellingham, Washington Salmon Fishing

Bellingham, Washington, is a midsize city on the shores of the Olympic Peninsula near the Canadian border. Bellingham is home to a commercial salmon fishing industry as well as sport fishing charter operations. Five different species of salmon pass through the waters near Bellingham each year. Chum, sockeye, kings, silver and pinks are possible to land during the long fishing season in the Northwest. Out-of-state anglers need valid Washington fishing licenses. You can purchase a license online through Washington's Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Eagle Point Charters operates out of Anacortes and Bellingham. Salmon charters and fishing trips run into the waters of the Olympic Peninsula and the San Juan Islands. Eagle Point supplies all needed fishing gear and tackle, an iced cooler for the day's catch and guest lunches, use of foul-weather gear, guides, boat service and filet/bagging. You should bring an extra layer of clothing for those cold days on the water, a camera and any necessary snacks and drinks. July through September is the best time to go for pinks, kings and silver salmon.

Patriot Charters serves Bellingham, Blaine and Anacortes. Charters from Bellingham depart from the downtown harbor and go into the waters around the peninsula or San Juan Islands. Silvers, kings and reds run July through September. Patriot Charters provides fishing gear and tackle, guides, boat service with fish-finders and filet/bagging services. You should bring extra clothes, sunglasses, binoculars and/or camera, lunch and a hat. Guides can assist with getting your catch to a smokehouse or shipping company once back at the harbor. Watch for cormorants, seals and orcas when on the water.

Rip Tide Charters

Rip Tide Charters runs trips for all five species of salmon seven days a week between July and September. Guests should bring warm clothing and rain gear, rubber boots, lunch and drinks and a camera and/or binoculars. Rip Tide provides all fishing gear and tackle, guides, boat service and assistance with filleting and bagging the daily catch. Rip Tide works with a local shipping and smokery service in Bellingham and will assist in getting your catch smoked, processed and shipped to an address of your choice. Orcas and other marine wildlife are often spotted during charters.
