Situated 90 miles north of Los Angeles and along the Pacific Ocean, Santa Barbara is often considered the "American Riviera." Vacation homes and year-round residences speckle the shoreline and mountainside in this affluent community. Visitors and residents have access to shopping, fine dining, historical mission tours and neighboring vineyards. The 150-year old pier known as Stearns Wharf is the city's most visited landmark. Restaurants that serve breakfast, lunch and dinner are spread throughout the wharf area.

The Harbor Restaurant

Established in its current state in 1981 after a fire burned it down, The Harbor Restaurant boast waterfront views so good you may even catch a glimpse of seals and dolphins outside your window. Enjoy elegant decor and a casual atmosphere. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, this establishment's menu includes eggs and bacon, steaks and omelettes, appetizers, seafood, pasta, and sandwiches. Various types of fish are on offer as well as several types of steak. Dessert, children's and specialty-drink menus are also available. Enjoy a glass or bottle of wine at the bar before your meal if you like. Prices are moderate and outdoor dining is also available.

Longboards Grill

Longboards Grill is situated atop The Harbor Restaurant and independently operated. It offers outdoor patio seating as well as indoor tables and an extensive bar. The restaurant offers a laid-back beach theme, complete with surfing memorabilia and barrels of peanuts free for the taking; then just toss the shells on the wood plank floor. The menu ranges from appetizers and sandwiches to salads and entrees. Chili, seafood appetizers and main dishes, steak and chicken are available. There are many burgers to choose from as well as daily specials. Prices are reasonable and the bar service runs until 1 a.m. A special late-night menu is available.

Moby Dick Restaurant

Moby Dick restaurant is a local's favorite with a colorful history. After being burnt to the ground in a fire, it re-opened after 2 years of extensive renovations. Wood beams run throughout the property and tables offer water views. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers American cuisine and seafood. Breakfast includes eggs, fruit and meat and other menus include salads, appetizers, soups, sandwiches, chicken, pasta, steak and seafood. Various fish and shrimp entrees are available. Specials are available and prices are moderate.

Santa Barbara Shellfish Company

Santa Barbara Shellfish Company sits at the end of the pier and offers a laid-back atmosphere and dining experience. There is seating available on barstools at a bar that reaches around the room as well as a few indoor tables and chairs. An assortment of seafood dishes is available, including chowder, shrimp, oysters, mussels, crab and lobster. There are also a few pasta seafood plates. This place is popular because of its fresh seafood and simple preparations. Portions are healthy and prices are reasonable. Beer and wine are available.
