Known as the "Garden of Ireland," County Wicklow is one of the most beautiful places in the world. With temperatures that rarely get out of the 70's, it's always comfortable to engage in the area's popular outdoor activities such as walking tours, hiking, cycling and fishing.

Lough Dan House Walking Holidays

This bed and breakfast sits on an 80-acre farm surrounded on three sides by Wicklow Mountains National Park. High up in the Wicklow Mountains, the farmhouse has breathtaking views of the lake of Lough Dan. The house has under-floor heating and includes a large sitting and dining area. All rooms have a bath and shower and king-size, double or twin beds. Guests are offered four-course dinners complimented with wine. Owners Sean and Theresa Byrne are the 5th generation of Byrnes to live here. O'Byrne is a well-known Wicklow name that has much to do with the history of the county. Their bed and breakfast hosts fully organized Walking Holidays that are catered with home-cooked local produce. Sean Byrne leads the tours, which range from four to 12 miles, depending on your abilities. Guests will experience gorgeous landscapes and hear stories about the area and its people.

The Gables

Hostess Maeve O'Connor invites you to her comfortable country home where you will receive complimentary tea and hot, homemade scones and jam on arrival. This Irish Welcome Award winning and Le Routard recommended home is convenient to mountains and lakes for hill walking. Maeve is happy to provide her expert knowledge on things to do and places to see in the area. All rooms have a bath and shower, satellite television, orthopedic beds and electric blankets. Every room is nonsmoking and has free WiFi available. A detailed information packet is provided for each guest, along with free holiday guides and maps to help plan your stay.
Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the enclosed hard-court tennis and basketball courts; free rackets and balls are available. Maeve provides an extensive home-baked breakfast menu with an early breakfast available if you have to leave early in the morning.

Pinewood Lodge

This modern bungalow owned by Michael and Mary Cullen sits in a quiet, wooded area close to the Laragh Village and the monastic ruins of Glendalough. All rooms have a bath and shower, television and free WiFi. There is a garden and guest lounge, and there are two bicycles available for sightseeing. This bed and breakfast is wheelchair friendly (National Rehabilitation Approved) and offers an extensive breakfast menu. One-bedroom apartments are also available. Apartments come with towels, bed linens, heating, hot water, and meter-operated electricity. Each apartment has a private patio area and parking space. Guests must contact the lodge for availability and are encouraged to bring their own groceries.
