Proctor, Vermont, is a small town known as the home of the Vermont Marble Museum, the world's largest marble exhibit. Proctor is one of the hearts of the marble industry in Vermont, where businessmen started mining the mineral in the late 1700s. Proctor is considered part of the "Crossroads of Vermont," and is named after the Proctor family, four generations of which served the state as its governor. With a population of less than 2,000, lodging is available in nearby Rutland, about 7 miles away.
