Whether you are looking for a romantic fairytale getaway or you have always wanted a medieval-themed vacation, a visit to the castle hotels in Ohio is a great way to add interest to your hiking vacation. All three hotels are in central Ohio near the best city, outdoor and shopping attractions. With ample hiking trails nearby, Ohio's castle hotels offer the best of it all.

Landoll's Mohican Castle

Landoll's Mohican Castle is located less than two hours northeast of Columbus in the Mohican outdoor recreational area. This castle hotel features suites and cottages with heated bathroom floors, fireplaces, kitchenettes, whirlpool tubs and satellite TV. Luxury suites are also available. Pricing ranges from $300 to $395 per night, but during the winter months, you may get a special rate for as low as $129 per night. Pets are not permitted.

There is a restaurant on site with daily dinner by reservation and a kids menu. A pool and fitness center are on the property as well. There are 30 miles of hiking trails available for exploration. Horse-drawn carriage and sleigh rides are also available. The castle offers packages for tour groups of over 30 guests. In addition, gift certificates are available. Finally, the conference suite is available for small groups of up to 12 people and the event center is available for larger groups of up to 250 guests. Mohican Country features fishing, canoeing, biking, skiing and golf, in addition to proximity to the Amish community with its shopping areas. This area is also popular for fall foliage retreats. Malabar Farm State Park is nearby, as is the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Finally, the Mohican area features an Indian Pow-Wow. The most unusual offering is the lumber from the property. Landoll's Mohican Castle offers lumber by the foot and red oak flooring.

Ravenwood Castle

Located in the Hocking Hills recreational area in the central part of the state and an alternative to the traditional cabins in the area, Ravenwood Castle has several types of accommodations. The castle features seven types of guestrooms, ranging from the two story King Arthur Suite in a tower with a balcony to the Duke's Dungeon on the lower level. In addition to the castle rooms, there are Medieval Village and Fairytale Village Cottages and a Gypsy Campground. Prices range from $210 per night for the King Arthur Suite to $79 for a weekday night in a cottage. Heat, air conditioning and breakfast are included for all rooms except for the Gypsy Wagons. Almost all rooms have a deck or porch. Housebroken dogs are allowed with a $25 per night fee in some of the rooms.

Ravenwood Castle has space for weddings, special events and business conferences. There are often specials listed on the website for anniversaries, romantic getaways, last minute getaways and other themes. Nearby attractions include Hocking Hills State Park, horseback riding, canoeing, golf and craft and antique shopping.

The Castle Inn

The Castle Inn is a bed and breakfast located near Columbus. The castle features several rooms, including The Square Tower Room with a whirlpool tub, The Round Tower Room with the soaking tub and the Garden Fireplace Room with a queen bed. There are honeymoon suites on the third floor with heart shaped tubs, including the Cherub Suite, the Victorian Suite and the Medieval Suite. The Castle Inn has meeting space to accommodate groups of 20 to 25 for meetings, parties and small weddings. Rates range from $299 per night for the Square Tower Room or Honeymoon Suite during a Murder Mystery to $119 per night for the Garden Fireplace Room on a weekday. Nearby attractions include the city of Columbus, the Hocking Hills recreation area, Mohican Country and the Circleville Pumpkin Show.
