Known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" and located in an area where the winters are long and harsh, Minnesota is well known as one of the best destinations for ice fishing in the United States. No matter whether you're a novice or an old hand, there are many resorts in central Minnesota that cater to lovers of the winter sport.

Agate Bay Resort

Located on the northeast side of Mille Lacs Lake about 100 miles southwest of Duluth, Agate Bay Resort offers both standard and premier ice cabins right on the lake. Depending on the size of your fishing party, you can choose from four-, six- or eight-hole houses, or try out the 10-hole cabin. All of the huts come with propane lights and heat, comfortable, if basic, bunks, carpeting, a table and chairs. You'll need to bring your sleeping bag and pillow, but otherwise most of the lodging and fishing equipment is provided in each cottage. On shore, you'll find 24-hour heated restrooms and showers, and Agate Bay Resort sells bait, tackle, food and drinks in its lodge.

The lake is well known for some of the best perch fishing in the country, and you'll also find an abundance of walleye and northern pike. The lodge at the Four Seasons Resort features a game room, grocery store, tackle shop, ice cream parlor, bar and meeting facility. If you choose to stay in one of the resort's cabins, you'll have a full kitchen and bathroom, as well as amenities like satellite TV.
