If you're planning a trip to Cherokee, NC, feel free to bring along your best furry friends to enjoy the fresh mountain air. Cherokee offers hiking, sight-seeing and easy access to the awesome and majestic Blue Ridge Parkway. The only real drawback is that you won't find more than a few places to stay with your little friend, unless you're considering a local campground.

Best Western Great Smokies Inn

Some of the local lodging choices are pretty limited on their pet policy, but not the Best Western Great Smokies Inn. You and your pet will find the Cherokee Indian Reservation and local streams that feature fishing and wading are a very short walking distance from the hotel.

There are a few restrictions, but whether your pet is a small feathered friend, a cat or dog, as long as it is under the 25 pound limit, and you pay the $15 per night/per pet charge, you're okay.

Nearby are paths to hike, local streams to play in and the hotel is close to the entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Smoky Mountains National Park.

There is a $15 pet charge that is refunded at the end of your stay, providing that there are no damages incurred while you're there.

EconoLodge Lodge Cherokee

The Econo Lodge is only a mile away from the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and equally close to the local entrance for the Blue Ridge Parkway.

There are many shops close by, and while you can't take your pets inside, there are places where you can secure the leash while you go in and take a quick look around at the local crafts.

The hotel is a half mile walk to the parks and natural streams and it isn't uncommon to see tourists and locals walking their dogs around this small mountain town.

If you plan to bring the family pet, this hotel only accepts small dogs. There is a $15 charge per dog (20 pounds or under), and there is a limit of two per room. The hotel does insist that you have a credit card to check in with animals, but if you want to use cash, the charge increases to $25. Either the way, the hotel will refund the deposit when you check out as long as everything is in order and undamaged.
