Just 20 miles from New York City, South Orange, New Jersey is best known as the hometown of Seton Hall University. The village holds fast to history and has the most street gas lights in the nation. The Township of South Orange has developed a "Downtown Vision Plan" modeled after the principles of New Jersey's "Smart Growth." According to southorange.org, the plan is to "support mixed-use development, walkable town centers, mass transit accessibility, sustainable development and preserved green space." The DeBary Inn

If you prefer not to stay in a chain hotel, the DeBary Inn may be for you. About 15 minutes from South Orange, the boutique hotel is located on Springfield Avenue, known for its beautiful Victorian homes. The building was built in 1880 by Fredrick DeBary, and it became an inn in the 1920s. The inn was recently featured in New Jersey Monthly in an interview with "Mad Money" host Jim Cramer, who is now a co-owner of the DeBary Inn.
