A triathlon presents many challenges for competitors. Beyond having to swim, bike and run in a single race, there's the challenge of wearing clothing that lets you do all three effectively. While in longer Ironman-distance races, competitors have time to change clothes between legs of the race, shorter races don't have the facilities or allow enough time for the competitor to do so. And time saved in the transitions between swimming, biking and running can be crucial in competition. Triathlon cycling shorts are designed to allow the competitor to swim, run and bike effectively, without having to change shorts.

TYR 9 Trishorts

TYR's 9-inch Trishorts feature a little longer inseam than many trishorts, which may be desirable to some athletes. The shorts have a QuikWik cushioning pad for the cycling portion of the event that doesn't soak up water and get heavy during the swim. The construction of the shorts is from durable polyester, with flat-stitched seams that won't rub against the skin and cause irritation. Leg grippers are sewn into the shorts to keep them tightly in place while in competition.

Pearl Izumi

Pearl Izumi trishorts have a medium length 7 1/2-inch inseam and are made from Select Transfer fabric--a synthetic blend that offers tight compression and moisture wicking. They'll dry quickly after the swim and offer moisture management of sweat later in the race. The pad is made from a quick-drying chamois and the panels of the shorts are put together with non-irritating flatlock seams. Reflective elements are built into the shorts for more safety in low light conditions.

Zoot Trifit 5

Zoot Trifit 5 shorts offer a minimal 5-inch inseam for the athlete who likes less fabric on his legs. These shorts sport a Ventilator mesh fabric that incorporates wicking properties for quick drying and moisture management. The two-layer cycling pad has antimicrobial properties to prevent mold and mildew buildup when wet. A set of small integrated pockets are handy for holding energy gels or electrolyte tablets for long races.
