Florida RV Campgrounds With Family Activities

Traveling in an RV is a great way to get outside and enjoy the outdoors without giving up many creature comforts of home. RV travel in Florida is a popular activity for recreation enthusiasts of any age. When traveling to Florida in an RV there are a number of RV parks and campgrounds offering activities for the entire family.

Sun N Fun RV Resort

Sun N Fun RV Resort is located approximately 7 miles east of downtown Sarasota. It is situated on 177 acres and has 600 sites with 30- or 50-amp hookups.

Open all year, the resort features a 6,000-square-foot Olympic-sized swimming pool, children's splash pool, two hot tubs, three laundromats, a fitness center, restrooms with showers and an outdoor dog wash.

There is Wi-Fi Internet, cable TV, a car wash, poolside bar and grill, a full service restaurant and two fenced dog runs because the resort is pet-friendly.

Families can enjoy swimming, shuffleboard, miniature golf, whiffle ball and tennis all on site or head to local beaches near Sarasota.

Myakka River State Park

Myakka River State Park is one of Florida's largest natural areas with the Myakka River flowing through 57 square miles of diverse habitats.

The Park has two campgrounds with 76 sites featuring 50-amp electricity, a fire ring and a picnic table. Amenities include restrooms with showers, boat rental, a boardwalk, a boat ramp, a playground, hike and bike trails, and pets are allowed.

Families can enjoy boating, bird-watching, hiking, displays of wildlife and seminars at the visitor's center or airboat rides to Upper Myakka Lake. Tent sites and cabin rentals also are available.

Camping on the Gulf

Located along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, Camping on the Gulf is a family resort campground featuring 220 sites with 20-, 30- or 50-amp full hookups. There are two campgrounds, an upper and a lower. Upper sites are located closer to West Emerald Parkway, and the lower sites are close to or right on the beach.

It features 22 family style bathrooms and three separate bathhouses with showers, Wi-Fi Internet, cable TV, a business center, two swimming pools, a hot tub and a laundry facility.

Families can enjoy sunbathing, beachcombing, swimming and biking throughout the year. Camping on the Gulf hosts a number of activities for families including a Bike Brigade, sand-dollar and face-painting activities, sidewalk chalk, cookie exchanges and wagon rides.
