Hessen Haus
Located in central Des Moines, Hessen Haus declares itself central Iowa's sole authentic bier hall. Hessen Haus is located in an old train station with much of the original wooden structure and brickwork remaining. Gortz Haus Gallery Bistro
Grimes, located in the northwest border of the Des Moines metro area, is home to the Gortz Haus Gallery and Bistro. The Gortz Haus opened its doors in 2002 after taking over a local landmark church building. Bread is baked fresh daily and the bistro chef cooks up a rotating menu of featured appetizers, entrees and desserts. The gallery at the Gortz Haus showcases the work of more than 50 local artists.

Old Hamburg Restaurant
The Old Hamburg Restaurant makes its home in Story City, about 45 minutes outside of central Des Moines. Old Hamburg specializes in northern German specialties including schnitzels and currywurst alongside a selection of German beers and wines. The Old Hamburg is open for dinner Monday to Saturday.
