Raleigh, North Carolina, is the home of Shaw University, an historically black college established in 1865. The campus played an important role in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, and this activism continues to inform the student body to this day. The Raleigh Memorial Auditorium resides on the campus grounds and is the home of numerous university events and activities, and a number of local hotels are conveniently within walking distance.
