Located in central Michigan, the town of Harrison is named after the ninth president of the United States, William Henry Harrison. A patriotic pride flows through the city and the surrounding countryside, which is home to several festivals and other events. Whether in the winter or summer, vacationers and residents alike can enjoy the festivities of central Michigan at these events.

Clare County Fair

County fairs are as popular as ever, and this August offering is a festival that keeps on growing. The fair offers traditional grandstand events, equestrian activities and live music. The 2010 version will also feature the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, a 300-foot replica of the monument at Washington, D.C. The fair traditionally takes places in early August.

Annual Frost Bite Winter Fest

The Annual Frost Bite Winter Fest is a winter-themed event held at the Budd Lake and Fairgrounds. Harrison's singular February event, it offers activities for adults and kids alike, such as a demo derby in the snow, snowmobile races, golfing on the frozen lake, a fishing derby and more.

Clare Irish Festival

The nearby Clare Irish Festival offers a celebration of Irish heritage. Held in March, it offers Irish food and drink, live entertainment, a parade, dancing, and, of course, a pint of Guinness. Raffle tickets are also for sale, with a grand prize of $1,500.

MMCC Fall Festival and Barbecue

The MMCC Fall Festival and Barbecue is having its eighteenth showing in 2010. Held at the Harrison campus of the Mid Michigan Community college, the festival serves up BBQ cuisine and live entertainment. Activities include a classic car show, rock climbing and a stage for live music. The event is held in September.
