When Pigs Fly Cafe

Many towns have that one café where the owners and waitstaff know their customers by name, the coffee cups are never empty and everyone is always smiling. For Waterford residents, When Pigs Fly is that place. For patrons in a hurry, call-ahead service is available.

Breakfast is available all day and consists of an assortment of egg dishes, omelets, egg sandwiches, French toast, pancakes and sides. Lunch choices include a variety of salads, sandwiches and wraps. Popular items include the "Jimmy Durante" sandwich with house-roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayonnaise on a toasted Kaiser roll, and the chicken taco wrap with a spicy grilled chicken breast, black beans, cheddar, avocado, lettuce and sour cream.

Caffe NV

When sisters Maria Longinidis and Eleni Ballas opened Caffe NV in 2000, their intent was to serve breakfast and lunch alone. Customers quickly became fond of the authentic Greek cuisine and convinced the sisters to offer dinner as well. In addition to the Greek-inspired dishes, Caffe NV also serves classic American comfort food as well as "Thin's In" selections for the health-conscious.

The extensive menu features a variety of appetizers, soups, sandwiches, salads and main dishes. Popular dishes include the traditional moussaka with meat sauce, roasted potatoes, eggplant and béchamel sauce, the jumbo shrimp over penne pasta with tomatoes, red onion, black olives, basil and feta cheese, and the fresh Atlantic salmon with maple-mustard sauce topped with pecans.

Sunset Rib Co.

Sunset Rib Co. enjoys a prime waterfront location overlooking the Niantic Harbor and Long Island Sound. The interior is casual and comfortable with deep wood tones, a large bar and subdued lighting. Two wrap-around decks offer al fresco dining and a place to enjoy cocktails while watching the sun set over the water.

The cuisine is a mixture of pub grub, fresh seafood and classic favorites, but as the Connecticut Now website says, "ribs are the Sunset's tour de force." The menu features a selection of appetizers, soups, salads, pastas and sandwiches as well as pork, beef, poultry and seafood entrees. Customer favorites include the baby back pork ribs, the lobster, jumbo shrimp and spinach over penne pasta topped with a lobster-cream sauce, and the classic fish and chips.
