It might seem like impressing a significant other on a romantic holiday in the Cape Cod area would be expensive, but there are a variety of cheap, leisurely activities to take advantage of that won't hurt your wallet. Avoid the tourist traps and get off the main roads. Enjoy the beaches and natural beauty. There you'll find a wealth of experiences to be had for little cost and a romantic getaway in the surrounding towns that you and your partner will be talking about for years to come.

Falmouth, Massachusetts

Falmouth (second syllable pronounced as in Plymouth) is on the southwestern part of Cape Cod and encompasses a number of smaller villages. Here, you and your lover can stroll around the quaint city streets, shop for antiques or take a bike ride along the Shining Sea Bikeway. Falmouth also boasts an aquarium where you can lean arm-and-arm and gaze at the array of sea life. In the summer, the city sets up free outdoor concerts and family-friendly movies. Don't forget easy access to the beach for romantic sunset strolls.

Nantucket, Massachusetts

Nantucket maintains some of the most pristine beaches to be found in the Northeast. Rent bicycles for a fun and inexpensive tour of the city and its surrounding coastline, lounge on the beach under the shade of an umbrella or splash in the chilly waters together. Hike around the island and enjoy the classic Nantucket architecture, much of it unchanged since its construction. The weathered clapboard houses and churches make excellent photographic subjects. All year long the island hosts a variety of concerts, fairs and art shows that visitors can enjoy at minimal cost.

Chatham, Massachusetts

Surrounded on three sides by Nantucket Sound, Chatham has miles of white sand beaches perfect for taking a yoga class or practicing your surf casting. Chatham has a number of nature trails and protected area parks that can be walked or hiked for little to no cost. You can catch a game with the Chatham Anglers, one of the Cape Cod baseball leagues local teams, in the local stadium. Chatham also hosts an extensive annual antique show.
