From giant pandas to giant whales, there are plenty of adventures in the San Diego area including the world famous San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld. But more popular than those locations combined are the fine sandy beaches that line the West side of the city. A hotel room in this area will allow you to fall asleep to the sounds of pounding surf. Hikers will want to visit the Hotel del Coronado then head south from the hotel along the Silver Strand; a quarter-mile-wide sand spit running several miles to Imperial Beach. It is this bit of land that actually makes Coronado a peninsula and not an island. Walking down the strand will bring you past some of the best surf locations in the world.

Hotel Del Coronado‎

Located on the golden speckled fine sandy beach of Coronado Island in San Diego Harbor, the Hotel del Coronado is the resort hotel by which most others are judged. Built in 1888, this white Victorian complex with its iconic red roofed spires offers the highest levels of comfort within its historic walls. Every corner of this elegant old hotel is a trip back in time. From the grand lobby with its dark woods and brass cage elevator to the many pools and restaurants located near the beach. Rooms range from small to huge but no matter what the size, you can expect premium bedding, linens and a rich color scheme. Guests looking for more space or a chance to sleep even closer to the surf can book one of the villas. With its semi-private swimming pools, private balconies and hot tubs, the villas offer one-, two- and three-bedroom accommodations at the very edge of the sand. Spa services are available and special romantic weekend or holiday getaways are available on its website.
