Schuyler is a community in Nelson County, Va., with only 400 residents. It lies in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western Virginia and is home to Walton's Mountain Museum. It is also the boyhood hometown of Earl Hammer Jr., who wrote "The Homecoming," catalyst for the '70s TV series "The Waltons. Trails in Nelson County include: Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, Crabtree Falls and Rockfish Valley Loop Trails. A few hotels are less than 30 minutes away from Schuyler.

Orchard House Bed and Breakfast

Built in an 1874 apple orchard, this facility is 27 minutes from Schuyler. A 14-acre Victorian farmhouse surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountain, it is a short drive from downtown Charlottesville and the wineries and vineyards of central Virginia. It has a swimming pool and hot tub, provides free wireless high-speed Internet access, free country breakfast, snack basket and freshly baked cookies. The three rooms are named after different varieties of apple and have private bathrooms. It has a living room, fully equipped kitchen and front and back porches that may be used by guests.

Village Inn Motel

The Village Inn is located on Highway 29 south of Lovingston, midway between Lynchburg and Charlottesville. All rooms are on the ground, allowing guests to park their cars right outside their rooms. All rooms have a large full bath with tub and shower, as well as cable TV with HBO, ESPN and other channels. A variety of single, double, king and handicap-accessible rooms are available. This inn is within 20 miles of Walton's Mountain Museum, 18 miles from Crabtree Falls, five minutes from Oak Ridge Estate and near Wintergreen. No pets are allowed.

Acorn Inn Bed & Breakfast

Acorn is a European-style bed-and-breakfast in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a few minutes from the Wintergreen Ski Resort in Charlottesville. About a half-hour away are facilities for hiking at the Shenandoah National Park and biking at the Blue Ridge Parkway. The inn is a converted horse stable that has a soapstone fireplace and an 800-square-foot gallery-cum-kitchenette for meetings and events. It has 10 guest rooms, each with a double bed, a desk, colorful wall quilt, wardrobe and a large window. The adjacent Acorn Cottage can sleep five people and has its own living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. The Acorn Inn is 28 minutes from Schuyler.
