Huffy bicycles have been around since the 1930s. Although the Bicycle and Bikes website says the company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2004, it remains in business. Huffy celebrated selling its 100 millionth bicycle in 2006. One of the selling points is Huffy's the wide variety of colors and themes that help make bicycling all the more fun for kids.

Kids 3 to 5

Huffy makes tricycles and bicycles with detachable training wheels for kids ages 3 to 5. Tricycles for boys and girls feature bucket seats, padded crossbars and knobby tires for the surest grip. Boys training wheel bikes come in 10-inch, 12-inch and 16-inch versions, based on the size of the tires. Girls versions come in 12-inch and 14-inch varieties. These, too, feature padded crossbars as well as padded seats, knobby tires and, in some versions, added accessories like a bike bag for girls. All bikes have one speed and coaster brakes. The bikes come in a variety of themes, with colors and decals that reflect those themes. These include red Disney Cars, red Uproar, and two colors of Pro Thunder for boys and pink Disney Princess and red and orange Dora the Explorer for girls.

Boys 6 and up

Huffy bikes for boys age 6 and older feature a wide array of 20-inch, single-gear bicycles with no training wheels. Some, like Uproar, share the same theme as bikes for the younger set, but with fewer decals and fanfare. Other themes for the 20-inch bikes include the blue Turbulent and maroon Pit Bull. The 20-inch bikes feature a padded seat, soft grips and linear brakes attached to the handlebars.

Girls 6 and up

Girls age 6 and older also have a wide array of single-gear, 20-inch bicycles from Huffy. Girls' themes include the blue Daisy Diva, two different colors of Hanna Montana and the aqua and fuchsia High School Musical. Bikes for girls are more colorful and ornate than those for boys, with additional graphics even on the seat. Most of them come with some type of handlebar basket, decorative bag or purse. Some feature streamers and wheel decorations. They, too, have a padded seat, soft grips and linear brakes attached to the handlebars.
