The Florida Gulf Coast, with its generally year-round subtropical climate and abundant geological features, is a hot spot for outdoor enthusiasts of all types. Extending for miles along Florida's west coast from the panhandle around Panama City Beach to Naples down to the Florida Keys, the Florida Gulf Coast is best known for its endless white sandy beaches. With the Gulf of Mexico at its side and plenty of smaller bodies of water such as lakes only a short distance inland, the Florida Gulf Coast is the symbolic "candy shop" for those interested in fishing, snorkeling, diving, kayaking, boating and other water activities. There are also plenty of opportunities away from the water, including hiking trails, equestrian trails, bird-watching and golf. But before you start your adventures, make sure there's a nearby hotel where you can rest after each day's activities.
