Tulsa, Oklahoma
Less than two hours away from Oklahoma City by car, Tulsa offers plenty of cheap or free attractions. Many of the museums in the city are free, including the Tulsa Historical Society Museum, Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame and the Sunbelt Railroad Museum. Dallas, Texas
Just because everything is bigger in Texas doesn't mean the cost of a weekend getaway has to be. Dallas has many attractions that are free to the public. During the spring and summer months, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performs in the city's public parks. Dallas' West End provides endless excitement for window shoppers as well as those who enjoy street performances. If you can take a long weekend, the Dallas Museum of Art offers its "Jazz Under The Stars" program free on Thursday nights. On the first Thursday of each month, the Nasher Sculpture Center offers free film screenings.
Wichita, Kansas
Where the Arkansas and Little Arkansas rivers meet sits Wichita's Keeper of the Plains. The Keeper of the Plains is a dramatic tribute to Native American culture. On weekend evenings, the Keeper of the Plains provides something of a pyrotechnic show when it burns a ring of fire around the statue at scheduled times. Beyond a visit to the Keeper of the Plains, Wichita also offers a wide selection of cheap or free museums including the Old Cowtown Museum, the Museum of World Treasures, and the Kansas Aviation Museum.
