Auburn, Alabama, founded in 1836, was named by Judge John Harper for a line from Oliver Goldsmith's poem "The Deserted Village." Best known as the home of Auburn University, the city also has a variety of outdoor activities. Chewacla State Park features a 26-acre lake for swimming, boating and fishing, and hiking and biking trails are located throughout the park. Kiesel Park features hiking and nature trails as well as historic home tours. Whatever your reason for visiting Auburn, there are several hotels near the university from which to choose.
