Philipsburg, Montana, is in the southwestern portion of the state and is near the Bitterroot National Forest. The Lolo, Deerlodge and Beaverhead National Forests surround the town in addition to the Bitterroot. With the available public lands, there are ample opportunities for outdoor activities. Hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, river rafting, kayaking, backpacking and wildlife observation are possible in any direction from Philipsburg. There are several RV parks in and around the Philipsburg area.

The Southwestern Inn Motel and RV Park is in the village of Philipsburg and can accommodate most RV sizes. The park is pet-friendly and welcomes dogs.

Standard water, sewer and 30- or 50-amp electric hookups come with sites. Showers, bathrooms, fire rings and grills and a laundry room are available. There is a lounge and restaurant at the motel. In the neighboring Bitterroot National Forest there are numerous trails for hiking and mountain biking. River rafting can be found at the Main Salmon, Middle Fork of the Salmon, Selway and Snake-Hells Canyon Rivers. Bird-watchers can keep an eye in the sky for golden and bald eagles. Moose, bear, fox and coyotes can be spotted around the area.

Big Sky RV Park is in neighboring Anaconda, approximately a 30-minute drive from Philipsburg, depending on weather and road conditions. The Big Sky offers sites for large and small RVs.

There are hot showers, bathrooms, a laundry room, a dump station, a guesthouse and barbecue stations. Sites have water, sewer, cable TV, Wi-Fi and 30- or 50-amp electric connections. Pets are allowed.

Guests should be "bear aware" and take care when storing and preparing food. Rock climbing opportunities can be found in the Lolo and Beaverhead National Forests, to the northwest and south, respectively. Road bicyclists can tour the region's many backcountry roads.

The Fairmont RV Park is also in the Anaconda area and offers a range of services. There are back-in and pull-through sites allowing most sizes of RV to park and camp. There are water, sewer, cable TV, Wi-Fi and 30- or 50-amp electric connections. Pets are welcome.

Showers, bathrooms, a swimming pool, a laundry room, a guesthouse and barbecue grills are on the premises. Hiking trails, bike rentals and horseback rides are available at the RV park.
