One of New Hampshire's most beautiful areas is in the northern parts of the White Mountains. North Conway is a small, charming New England town, which serves as a gateway to some of New Hampshire's most excellent outdoor adventures. The tallest peak in the Northeast, Mount Washington at 6,288 feet, is just up the road amongst several hundred thousand acres of protected forest.

Canoe and Kayak

Northern Extremes offers canoe, kayak and tube rentals as well trip planning on the nearby Saco River. Northern Extremes owns a private 12-acre beach along the Saco and offers group rates. The large fleet of canoes and kayaks can accommodate more than 100 people at a time.

Conway Scenic Railroad

Embark on a great railway journey on one of the rail tours offered by the Conway Scenic Railroad. Choose a Valley Route to Conway or Bartlett or the excursion to the breathtaking Crawford Notch. All routes depart from the colorful train station in downtown North Conway. The Notch and Valley trains are powered by diesel electric locomotives and in October the Conway route is powered by a steam engine. Reservations can be made for a railway journey from July 13 to January 3.

Ski and Ride at Cranmore Mountain Resort

With more than 200 skiable acres, North Conway offers a little winter fun for everyone. There are 43 trails, seven glades and two terrain parks, three operating lifts and 100 percent snow-making. There are several kids programs to keep your young ones busy while you catch a few fast runs as well as a ski and board rental shop, tubing park and family fitness center with a swimming pool, indoor climbing wall, Jacuzzi and tennis courts.

Take a Sleigh Ride

Farm by the River B&B with Stables is not only an amiable place to get some rest at night but to take a carriage or sleigh ride through the beautiful countryside. The stable operates year-round and has 24 horses. Guests could opt to take a dreamy Victorian sleigh ride after skiing or take the whole family on a carriage, hay or pony ride during other seasons. The nine bedroom B&B offers ski and stay packages and guests may qualify for skiing discounts. The Inn also hosts elopements and weddings.

Swing From the Trees

Take a trip to New England's debut high rope adventure. Monkey Trunks consists of four different ropes courses and puts on a Halloween event, corporate and team building events, educational events as well as birthdays and parties. Monkey Trunks offers admission to all ages in day passes for just one course or all four courses. The company also sells season passes and offers group rates. The season begins May 23.
