Even a trace amount of gluten can cause problems, and it is a more prevalent ingredient than many realize. Finding a restaurant that serves gluten-free options can be difficult. While staying in Overland Park, Kansas, however, you will have several options.

In addition to its gluten-allergy friendly dining establishments, the city of Overland Park has plenty of attractions to offer. Make sure to check out the 300-acre OP Arboretum and Botanical Garden, which has nearly five miles of hiking trails. The 17-mile long Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail is another great spot to visit while in the area. Nearly 80 parks are in and around the city as well.

Fortune Wok is a Chinese restaurant in Overland Park that serves many gluten-free dishes. This includes many traditional Chinese seafood, pork, chicken, beef and veggie dishes. House specialties include lettuce wraps, sweet and sour chicken, sushi and sashmi. The atmosphere is laid back and casual, and children and families are welcome. Fortune Wok serves both lunch and dinner, and it has a separate lunch menu, available from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily, with less expensive meals.

Romano's Macaroni Grill

Romano's Macaroni Grill is a popular chain of Italian restaurants. It has made a list of suggested meal and beverage options for individuals with a gluten allergy pulled from its regular menu. This includes gluten-free options off the kid's menu: green salads and grilled chicken and broccoli (without pasta). Adult options include sausage salentino (without pasta), beef tenderloin spiedini (without vegetables), jumbo shrimp spiedini (without vegetables) and grilled halibut (without risotto). Drinks include red and white wines, sodas and blackberry mint, mango, peach and raspberry teas.

Godfather's Pizza

Finding an Italian restaurant that caters to eaters with gluten allergies is hard enough, but to find a pizza shop that does so can seem next to impossible. Godfather's Pizza is one of the few such restaurants in the country. As it states on its website, "When Godfather's Pizza learned there are approximately 3 million Americans with celiac disease, we knew we needed to create a gluten-free pizza that addresses their special diet restrictions ... Our research and development team went to work to develop a great-tasting, quality pizza that is free of gluten." The gluten-free pizzas are topped off-site, at a Celiac Sprue Association-approved facility, as to ensure there is no cross-contamination. Godfather's makes a gluten-free version of its cheese, pepperoni, beef, sausage, classic combo (topped with pepperoni, sausage, beef, onions, black olives, mushrooms and mozzarella cheese) and all-meat combo (topped with beef, pepperoni, sausage, ham and bacon bits) pizzas.
