As a cyclist's main point of contact with the road, quality bike tires are a determining factor in the quality of a cyclist's ride. Designed to provide traction and durability in a lightweight, highly efficient package, road bike tires generally consist of a tough, tacky and lightweight rubber compound. The best road bike tires have a fast, efficient roll profile, can provide traction in wet or dry conditions and provide cushioning over rough patches.

Panaracer Stradius Extreme

Providing traction in a variety of conditions, Panaracer's Stradius Extreme tire is an effective choice for cyclists looking for a quality road racing tire. Featuring Panaracer's ZSG Ultima tread compound, the Panaracer is designed to perform in wet or dry conditions. BikeRadar.com called the Stradius a "top quality road racing [tire]," citing its ability to navigate wet roads as well as the comfortable ride that it provides. BikeRadar.com mentioned how well the Stradius' tread performs, saying it "provides outstanding cornering grip that just keeps getting better the harder you push it."

Kenda Kommuter

With a smooth center ridge section, Kenda's Kommuter road bike tire provides a comfortable ride for cycling commuters, and its wide profile provides ample cushioning on rough sections of pavement. Calling the Kommuter's tires "long life for extra touring and commuting comfort," BikeRadar.com highlighted the tires' minimal rolling resistance and durability, noting they felt "smooth and fast to ride," and that after over 2,000 km of use, they showed "little visible wear to either tread or sidewalls."

Vittoria Diamante Pro

Despite its puncture-resistant nylon casing and Kevlar Carbon 3D compound, Vittoria's Diamante Pro road tire still weighs in at a svelte 195g. The compound also provides rolling resistance and solid grip while cornering. Bicycling.com noted the Diamante's utility for all-around cycling, noting that while cornering on wet pavement, the tire "provided more grip than [the reviewer] had nerve for."
