Locations for Purchasing Fishing Licenses in North Carolina

North Carolina is a wonderful place to go fishing. Whether you prefer fly fishing or spinner reels, rivers or lakes, or surf or sport fishing off the coast, you will find what you are looking for here. To fish in North Carolina, you have to have a fishing license. North Carolina licenses are broken down into freshwater and saltwater, and there are many ways to obtain one.

Retail

There are many retail locations that sell fishing licenses in North Carolina. You are sure to find sales at places like Walmart, Bass Pro Shop, Kmart, Sports Authority and other stores that sell a large amount of sporting goods. Smaller stores will sometimes sell the licenses as well if they are located near a popular fishing area. They could range from grocery and conveniences stores to hardware stores and fishing piers.

Charter Services and Boat Rentals

If you are booking a trip on a charter boat or through a guide service, you will typically be able to purchase the correct fishing license through the company. Sometimes the cost of the license will be included in the fee. Boat rental companies also provide this service normally so you don't drive away with one of their boats unprepared for you trip.

If you want to insure you have your license before you take your trip, and don't want to risk being in an area where they don't sell fishing license or are sold out, you can purchase the license online. This is a simple way to purchase your license, and it will be mailed to you. Just make sure you buy it well in advance of the outing, so it will get to you in time.
