The Cameron Highlands are the highest point in Malaysia, a two-and-a-half-hour drive north of Kuala Lumpur. The area was a popular escape for British ex-pats during the colonial era and is home to many traditional tea plantations, nature trails and exotic fauna. It is a paradise for hikers and photographers and can accommodate luxury stays and backpackers in a variety of lodgings.

The Equatorial

The Equatorial is a sprawling hilltop complex with stunning penthouse views, an indoor swimming pool and gym, high-speed Internet access on high floors, restaurants, bars and a full-service tour desk. Jungle trekking to waterfalls and lookouts on the Gunung Brinchang trail and in the Mossy Forest around Tanah Rata ranges from easy to difficult. Mountain hiking (with maps), golfing and camping are also available, as are visits to an exotic butterfly farm and pick-your-own strawberry fields.

The Lakehouse

The Lakehouse is a "Tudor-style boutique resort" on a hilltop 1,000 meters above sea level with spectacular views of the surrounding terrain. It is located between the towns of Tanah Rata and Ringlet, close to three tea plantations and two waterfalls. The rooms and suites in the guesthouse and the main house have both Wi-Fi and antique table fans, and the hotel offers full concierge service along with jungle guides for trekking in the hills surrounding the hotel and a reading room for quiet time between adventures. All rooms include breakfast for two and daily fresh fruit platters, but charges do not include tax and tips.
