Bayou Black Recreation Center

The Bayou Black Recreation Center is home to many activities that are perfect for the whole family. Facilities include a swimming pool and sports fields. The recreation center also organizes youth sports programs.

The recreation center also is home to Houma's only barrier-free, completely accessible playground. The playground was installed in several sections starting in 2001. The setup offers parents unobstructed visibility so parents can easily keep tabs on their children. The equipment includes areas for balancing and climbing, as well as several slides.

Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum

The Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum studies the important and complex relationship between local culture, the local economy, and the industries of seafood and shipping. The museum highlights those who make their living from the sea and the long-standing traditions of the Bayou lifestyle. Children will enjoy the many interactive displays as they simulate driving a shrimp boat into the Gulf, practice oyster-toning techniques, and hear stories from those who have spent their lives working on the water. Other exhibits study the natural history of the area, including a sweeping timeline mural.

Alligator Annie Miller's Swamp & Marsh Tours

Adventurous souls will enjoy taking a swamp and marsh tour with Alligator Annie's. On the Coast Guard-licensed tours, guests learn the differences between a marsh and a swamp. Learn to identify many native plant species and wildlife, including alligators. The tours also emphasize the importance of conservation, talking about the effect of erosion on the wetlands and studying the complex ecosystem.
