The Biltmore Estate is the largest privately owned home in the country. It was built by George Vanderbilt in 1889, modeled on French chateaux. The house, its gardens and winery, as well as nearby hotels, are in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Visitors can enjoy tours of the historic house and also numerous outdoor activities in the area. The mountains provide plenty of fishing, hiking, mountain biking, camping and horseback riding.

Renaissance Asheville Hotel

The Renaissance Asheville Hotel is a short drive from the Biltmore Estate. It has an on-site indoor pool with a Jacuzzi and a fitness center. Orchards and the Lobby Lounge are the two restaurants in the hotel. Each is casual dining. Orchards serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are also 13 meeting rooms with 21,000 square feet of event space. Each room has wireless Internet access, a flat-screen television, and a mini-fridge. The hotel allows dogs under 40 pounds for a non-refundable deposit. Rooms with handicapped accessibility and rooms with views of the mountains are available.

Four Points by Sheraton Asheville Downtown

The Four Points is in downtown Asheville a short drive from the Biltmore Estate. The hotel is within walking distance of several restaurants, shops and galleries of the downtown area. It is also a short drive from all the outdoor activities available in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are 2,400 square feet of event space for meetings and banquets. The local YMCA provides free passes to guests, and there is also a 24-hour fitness center. The Chophouse is the only restaurant in the hotel. It is a fine-dining establishment that specializes in steak. Each room has a 32-inch flat-screen television, wireless Internet access and a coffee maker. Rooms also feature hypoallergenic bedding, down pillows and a turn-down service. The property is non-smoking. The hotel allows pets for a small additional fee.

The Hotel Indigo Asheville Downtown is a short drive from the Biltmore Estate. It is a smoke-free boutique hotel with a 24-hour fitness center. The hotel provides same-day dry cleaning, wireless Internet access and a 24-hour lounge area for guests. Phi Restaurant is the on-site bistro that serves breakfast and dinner. There are 100 guest rooms, with single or double occupancy. Each room has a cable television, CD player and daily newspaper delivery. Five rooms have handicapped accessibility.
