Texas, the Lone Star State, is known for big hats, wide-open landscapes and big lakes and rivers. Big Bend National Park has river rafting, hiking, rock climbing and bouldering. South Padre Island, on the Gulf of Mexico coast, has sea kayaking, bird-watching and wildlife observation. Traveling through Texas opens up the Old and New West. There are many campgrounds and cabins available throughout the state.

The South Padre KOA has RV camping sites and the KOA's "Kabins." They also offer full service condos and lodges for rent. There are picnic tables and freshwater spigots. Pets are allowed at the KOA.

There are "Kabins" available for stays. Cabins have private bathrooms, beds and porches. Check with the manager on pet rules for the cabins.

The campground has bathrooms, showers, a pool, a laundry room and a guesthouse. AAA and Good Sam discounts are available.

Kemp's Ridley sea turtles come to South Padre Island each year to lay eggs. Sea kayaking the coast allows for bird-watching and marine mammal sightings such as dolphin.

Frio Pecan Farm

The Frio Pecan Farm is on the banks of the Rio Frio River. There are 20 different cabins to stay in as well as a bunkhouse (dormitory-style lodging) and an RV campground.

Cabins have two bedrooms with a queen-sized bed, fold-out sofa beds, kitchens, private showers and bathrooms, satellite TV and Wi-Fi access. There are porches and barbecue grills available.

Fishing, canoeing, kayaking, inner-tubing and swimming opportunities are at the Rio Frio River. Road bicyclists can tour the many roads in the area.

Fresh pecans can be purchased, picked and enjoyed at the working pecan farm, which is next to the camping area and cabins.

Fredericksburg KOA

Enjoy the the diversity of the Hill Country in central Texas.

The Fredericksburg KOA is close to the Texas Hill Country, near Austin and San Antonio. The KOA offers tent camping sites and has one-room "Kabins." Tent sites are primitive.

The cabins have a bedroom and a private bathroom. There is a porch and a grill for cookouts at the cabin. Tent sites have fire rings with grills and a picnic table. Bathrooms and showers as well as a laundry room are on the premises for your comfort. Pets are allowed.

There are many miles of country roads for road bicycling. A day trip to the Alamo in San Antonio is possible from the Fredericksburg KOA.
