Cycling as a form of transportation or for exercise is clean for the planet. If your cycling tubes have been patched until they cannot be patched anymore, are worn out or just will not hold air anymore, consider doing something green. You can recycle and reuse bicycle tubes to make furniture, playground mulch and products, from wallets to bracelets and bags. Here are some ideas on where to recycle your inner tubes.

Hard-to-Recycle Material Centers

Hard-to-recycle material centers can recycle bicycle inner tubes. Each site is different in terms of fees--some may do it for free. Before you bring your tubes by, check to see if the center only takes specific tubes. Some places may not take thorn-resistant tubes.

Bike Shops

Bike shops also recycle inner tubes. Each bike shop may have specific guidelines on what size and type of tubes it can recycle, and some shops may charge for the service.

Tire Shops

Depending on their recycling policies, tire shops may also be willing to recycle your bike tubes and, even, tires. A tire shop will most likely charge a small fee for the service, but it is better than throwing your tubes in the trash.

Alchemy Goods

Alchemy Goods can take any 26- and 27-inch tubes and 700c tubes that are 35 millimeters in width or wider. Any tube that is thorn-resistant, has protection slime, is BMX- or kids-sized, or is 700c that is skinnier than 35 millimeters in width cannot be reused by Alchemy. The company, based in Seattle, uses the tubes to make wallets, messenger bags and other goods.
