Known as the state with the highest hot spring density, Idaho features more than 230 hot springs spread across the state with more than 130 of these offering soaking opportunities. Most of the hot springs resorts are also located near plenty of outdoor recreation. Enjoy working out your muscles with some hiking, biking, fishing or exploring, then head to one of these resorts to rejuvenate for your next day's activities.

Twin Springs Resort

Featuring natural, sulphur-free thermal springs, this central Idaho resort offers a variety of cabins on the Middle Fork of the Boise River. Each cabin features several bedrooms, separate living, dining and sleeping areas, full kitchens, back porches, decks with views of the Boise River and private hot tubs. One of the cabins also features a wood-burning stove. Stock up on groceries and other staples because the location is rather remote. You can buy a few basic items as well as play a game of pool or enjoy a beer down the road at George's Tavern and Store. Twin Springs is located in Boise National Forest with the area offering great fishing as well as wildlife watching.

Downata Hot Springs Recreational Resort

Located south of Pocatello, this family-friendly resort offer a variety of activities including a large naturally-heated pool, four water slides, water playground, lighted volleyball and basketball courts and picnic tables. Swim classes are also available during the summer. Lodging consists of a variety of cabins, a ranch house and several yurts with some featuring full kitchens, satellite television and DVD players. The ranch house also has a gas grill and fire pit. Spa services are also available. For meals, head to the resort's Poolside Restaurant for burgers, fish and chips and appetizers. Or try the candlelight dinner service featuring steak, chicken or seafood. Plenty of mountain biking, hiking and bird watching opportunities exist in the immediate area.

Riverdale Resort

Located in southeastern Idaho near the Bear River, this resort features two hot springs pools, an Olympic-size pool and a hydro-tube water slide. Hotel rooms feature spa tubs using geothermal hot spring water, balconies, microwaves, refrigerators and televisions with VCR and DVD players available. In the morning, guests can have a complimentary continental breakfast. For lunch and dinner, drive to nearby Preston for a variety of dining options including Mis Amores Mexican Restaurant and Tattles Bar & Grill. Just a short drive from the resort, you can also golf, fish, hike, float down the Bear River or explore several nearby caves.
