Lansing is within driving distance for most of lower Michigan and offers outdoor sports, nature programs, zoos and indoor museums, with something for everyone year-round. Hawk Island Park

Hawk Island Park offers year-round outdoor activities for the whole family. Located on Sablain Gravel Pit, the park offers water activities including rowboats and paddle boats (available for rental), swimming and the Splash Pad. Picnic areas, sand volleyball, horseshoes, walking trails and fishing areas are also open to the public during warmer months. In the winter, kids enjoy sledding both the big and little hills, then relaxing in the warming lodge. Hours of operation vary by season.

Impression 5 Science Center

Impression 5 is an interactive educational environment that encourages visitors to explore and experience the world through hands-on activities and exhibits.Trained staff and volunteers are available to answer questions and offer assistance with exhibits, which include the Bubble Room, Water Room and Connecting with Chemistry, where visitors can make their own slime. Impression 5 also offers day camps and space for birthday parties.

Potter Park Zoo

Potter Park Zoo is located on 100 acres along the Red Cedar River. The park is home to more than 400 animal species, including big cats, rare primates, exotic birds and reptiles and barnyard animals from around the world. Exhibits educate visitors about the animals, their habitat and protection and conservation efforts. Special programs, school field trips and birthday parties are available to visitors.

Woldumar Nature Center

Woldumar Nature Center occupies 178 acres of woodland and 1.25 miles of shoreline along the Grand River, welcoming more than 40,000 visitors a year. The center's five miles of trails are open for hiking and cross-country skiing year round from dawn to dusk. Community and childrens' nature education programs are offered year-round, including a day camp that serves 600 children each summer.
