Augusta, Georgia, is located about 150 miles east of Atlanta. British Gen. James Oglethorpe founded Augusta in 1736, and the city briefly served as Georgia's capital toward the end of the century. The only structure ever built by the government of the Confederacy, the Powder Works, is in Augusta. Every year, during the first week of April, sports fans gather for the Masters golf tournament. Therefore, visitors will want to take time to experience Augusta. Luckily, there are a number of hotels serving the city.

The Partridge Inn

The Partridge Inn's 144 rooms have many of the amenities--family rooms, pet policies, available suites and kitchenettes, a pool, a gym and plenty of free parking--that one would expect from a large hotel. However, the inn prides itself on being a model of southern charm and hospitality. The newly refurbished rooms offer deep, overstuffed couches and guests can stroll the covered verandas in nearly all weather. The inn has been serving guests since 1892, and has full maid service, a concierge and valet and laundry service. Expert event planners are on hand to help conferences go smoothly or plan the perfect wedding. The Verandah Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is famed for its Sunday brunch. The inn's bar also features live jazz music.
