Homer is located on the southwest side of the Kenai Peninsula Borough along the shores of Kachemak Bay. It is known as the "Halibut Capital of the World" and features the Homer Spit, a narrow 4.5-mile gravel bar that extends into the bay and houses Homer Harbor. The city is easily accessible by land, air or sea, and the fishing industry and tourism support the local economy. Travelers enjoy views of snow-capped mountains with glaciers; fishing for salmon, trout and halibut; wildlife viewing from area beaches; and sea kayaking the Bay. When traveling to Homer, there are a number of RV campsites from which to choose.

Homer Spit Campground

Homer Spit Campground is located at the end of Homer Spit, approximately five miles from downtown Homer. Open May 1 through Sept. 15, it has 122 sites, including 12 pull throughs, 86 partial hookups and 10 tent campsites. It features 30-amp electrical service, restrooms with showers, a laundry facility, pay phone, TV hookups and a dump station. Propane is available. Visitors can enjoy beach-going and wildlife viewing from the campground or take a short walk to Homer Harbor for fishing charters and docks for kayaking.
