The Almost Do it Yourself Tour
A great option for the independent traveler is to hop on The Tokyo Shitamachi Bus tour. This bus service drives a route of seven areas, allowing visitors to get a good glimpse of the city. This is a fixed-route sightseeing bus that runs daily, with buses leaving every thirty minutes, and no reservations are needed. Starting at Tokyo Station and passing through Nihombashi, Akihabara, Ueno, Kappabashi, Asakusa and Ryogoku, the route takes 50 minutes from start to finish. Fares are 200 yen for adults, and 100 yen for children. Although there is no tour guide on board, information is on monitors and in multiple language pamphlets inside the bus.
