Bicycles come equipped from the factory with brakesets supplied by a number of different manufacturers, among the most popular being Shimano, Tektro, Avid, SRAM and Campagnolo. As the pads become worn and require replacement, it's generally a good idea to use OEM replacement pads, but for even better braking performance there are some great aftermarket choices.

SwissStop Yellow King

SwissStop Yellow King pads were designed for use on carbon rims but work equally well on alloys. Their main strengths are excellent performance life, temperature resistance and quiet, squeal-free operation. The pad compound has been designed with no abrasive materials, so no filing is required to clean the surfaces. Braking performance, both wet and dry, is exceptional.

Kool-Stop Tectonic

The Kool-Stop Tectonic brake pad comes with a set of interlocking friction materials that allow customization of pad compounds (salmon or black) and of the exact positioning of the friction materials within the forged alloy holder. The rider is thus able to configure the brake pads for optimum performance in a variety of riding conditions. Spacing requirements are also easily adjusted with the included washer system.

JagWire Red Zone

JagWire's Red Zone features an extremely lightweight (32 1/2 g) pad holder of machined aluminum. Swappable inserts made up of two pad materials permit the choice of black, which is used under normal dry conditions, or red, which is optimized for superior wet weather performance. The pads are also compatible with high-end brakesets from Shimano and Campagnolo.
