Northome is three miles north of Island Lake on the edge of Chippewa National Forest. While Island Lake itself does not support many accommodation options, the resorts and campgrounds of the greater area allow travelers to take full advantage of access to the forest land and recreation on both land and water.

Dora Lake Lodge

Dora Lake Lodge provides rental cabins and a campground for weary travelers. The campsites offer partial hookups and shower facilities, and guests are welcome to bring their pets. Visitors can rent a boat and motor. Several lakes are within a short drive, and challenging canoeing is found on the larger lakes of the Chippewa National Forest, including Winnibigoshish Lake, 28 miles south, and Cass Lake, 37 miles south. Several rivers cross the forest land, including Turtle River and the Mississippi River, offering paddling trails from easy to moderate that cover hundreds of miles of water. Many primitive campsites also serve these areas.

Located 40 miles south of Northome, Migizi Bike Trail circles Pike Lake and provides over 15 miles of mountain bike trail. Several campgrounds and a boat landing are contained in the same area of the forest as the bike trail.

The cabins are available by the day or week and boat and motor rentals are also provided, along with dock access on Round Lake.
